  • Notes from the photographers:

    Keisha Finai

“Ramallah, 2019. After weeks of staring at this (very steep) hill from the patio of the SkatePal flat in Ramallah, Rémi and Alex finally declared it was time. This photo is both one of my favorites ever taken, but also one of my favorite memories. We split into groups, with some of the crew at the bottom ready to handle traffic and runaway boards. What you don’t see here is the laughs and hugs behind the lens, the newly ripped holes in dirty clothes, and the sheer joy we shared co-creating this moment. For me, this photo represents everything SkatePal is about: providing an opportunity for volunteers and locals to create connection, art, and pockets of time.”

    Maen Hammad

“Aram ride-on 5-0 in downtown Ramallah, December 2022. A few skaters were spot-hunting around the city after a long period of no street skating during a cold Palestinian winter, when Aram found this”

    Loïc Laforge

“Asira Ash Shamaliya, 2017. After a day of skate classes with the kids, we (SkatePal volunteers) would enjoy skating the park ourselves until dark, sharing an ‘after work’ session with whoever wanted to stick around. Here’s SkatePal volunteer Anes, aged 18 at the time, having fun just before the sun disappeared behind the hills.”
